Paul J. and Ida Trier House

AIA Iowa

Recognitions: Frank Lloyd Wright in Iowa

Project Description

The Paul J. and Ida Trier House is located in Johnston, Iowa and was completed in 1958. The Triers examined all the houses designed by Wright in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa before commissioning Wright to design their home at the edge of the Des Moines River. The home’s design was derived from Wright’s 1953 New York Usonian Exhibition House. The Triers built their own Wright-designed furniture for the home. Ida Trier lived in the house until her death in 2012 and always welcomed fans or followers of Frank Lloyd Wright.
