Project Description
The project encompasses a 15,000 SF addition and remodel to an existing PK-5 facility. The original building is a single story masonry structure that is complementary to the adjacent 1960's high school. The main entry was completely refaced to welcome the community of Blairsburg. This entry also reorganizes the school by moving the administration to a more visible location, and by creating a focal point for visitor entry into the school. Other design goals include:
• Improvement of site circulation of buses, parents, students, and staff
• Safe access to playgrounds
• An addition built independent of the 1918 building
In the new addition, the existing facade is complimented by punched window openings and a cascading fin wall to the south. The exterior envelope construction uses typical parapet walls with a low slope membrane roof for cost effectiveness and to create a design relationship between the old and new parts of the buildings.
