Project Description

This winery has been located in Newton, Iowa since 2004 and their recent growth created the need for much larger facilities. Rather than expanding in Newton, the owners decided to relocate their new wine making and events facility just south of downtown Des Moines. The new winery is a 8,100 sq. ft. building on a four-acre landscaped site which includes a small vineyard, gardens, an outdoor event area, and covered walkways and patios. The winery provides production facilities for 10,000 cases of wine annually, a tasting and cafe area, a banquet facility for groups of up to 125 people, and associated service functions. The building is developed as three main parts: 1) Production, 2) Tasting/Service, and 3) Events, under a single large sloped roof. This simple arrangement is a response to the working nature of the project and the straightforward manner the owner wants to present the winery. Sustainable features, such as daylighting, open ventilation, a low-impact natural material palate, permeable paving areas, and high efficiency mechanical systems are included as part of the development.
