Project Description
The primary goal of the AIA Iowa Office remodel was to increase its public exposure. Through integrated design delivery, this project is an example of how today's design community addresses challenges in a very multidisciplinary team approach. Each team member played an integral role in evaluating existing conditions, creating a plausible solution and delivering the project on time and under budget.
Sustainability was at the forefront of this design concept. Using eco-friendly materials, finishes, and products: the space is intended to allow easy expansion for events and contraction for intimate educational opportunities with ease. Locating the open "flex" space adjacent to the conference room allows change to happen effortlessly. In consideration of the desired day-lighting, all staff is strategically located to have access to day-light and views within the space
The floating ceiling, constructed of recycled resin panels that glow from overhead lighting, visually connects the space's social and conferencing areas. This project received LEED Platinum Certification, the first commercial interior space to receive this recognition in Iowa.
The end result was a 2,300 square foot office remodel of a highly visible first floor space located within Capital Square, adjacent to the new Cowles Commons (formerly Nollen Plaza). Strategic use of branding in graphics underscores the institute's identity and the architecture of the space. Consistent with the organization's philosophy, the new space represents an efficient and cost effective office design solution that encourages public interaction and awareness of the architecture and design community.
